Benefits of Huck Lockbolts in Steel Construction

  1. Quick and easy installation to speed up your assembly

  2. Consistent preload ensures reliable joint performance

  3. Maintenance-free joints reduce lifetime costs

Why Use Lockbolts in Construction?

A LockBolt is a specialised two-piece fastener used as an alternative to bolting, welding and tension control bolts (TCB) in structural construction joints. If you're experiencing long-term fastener performance and maintenance issues, or simply want to reduce your assembly times then Huck LockBolts can be the solution. Key benefits include:

1) Improved Assembly - LockBolt installations are quick and simple, cutting assembly time and increasing throughput
2) Improved Performance - LockBolts joints are strong, vibration resistant and maintenance-free, delivering consistent performance for your project lifetime

How do Lockbolts Work?

The installation plays a key role in the function of LockBolts. Instead of using torque to achieve the required performance values Huck LockBolts utilises material swaging to achieve optimal performance. A specialised set of tooling deforms the collar into the grooves on the pin: an irreversible process.

The installation is designed to be highly repeatable and delivers exceptionally consistent results, unlike traditional fastening technologies: every installation achieves almost identical levels of preload, whilst the simplicity of the process eliminates the posibility of user error. This means you can design your joints without over-specifying or compensating for inherent weaknesses in other fastening methods.

The result is a reliable, permanent, vibration-resistant joint, that will not loosen over time. The Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) has classified our Lockbolt technology as maintenance-free, meaning that no checking, adjustments or repairs are required on Lockbolted joints for the lifetime of the structure.

Installation Sequence

The installation sequence for Huck LockBolts is very simple, requiring no special skills or training. The whole process can be undertaken by a single operator and can be taught and mastered within a few minutes.

  1. Pin placed into prepared hole, collar placed over pin

  2. Tool is placed over the fastener pintail and activated

  3. Tool auto-swages collar, generating clamp

  4. Pintail breaks automatically, installation complete
