The Key Benefits of Huck Lockbolts

  1. Very quick & repeatable installation

  2. Extremely consistent pre-load

  3. Certified maintenance-free joints

What is a Lockbolt?

A Lockbolt is a specialised two-piece fastener used as an alternative to bolting and welding. If you're experiencing issues with vibration, long-term fastener performance and maintenance, or simply want to reduce your assembly times then Huck Lockbolts can be the solution. Key benefits include:

1) Improved Assembly - Lockbolt installations are quick, and simple, cutting assembly time and increasing throughput
2) Improved Performance - Lockbolts joints are strong, vibration resistant and maintenance-free, improving your end product and cutting lifetime cost

In addition to the extensive portfolio of standard products the Huck team can engineer a custom Lockbolt to specifically fit your application requirements. Contact us to speak to an engineer.

How do Lockbolts Work?

The installation plays a key role in the function of Lockbolts. Instead of using torque to achieve the required performance values Huck Lockbolts utilises material swaging to achieve optimal performance.

A specialised set of tooling deforms the collar into the grooves on the pin: an irreversible process.

The result is a permanent, vibration-resistant, maintenance-free* joint, that will not loosen. The process is highly repeatable and delivers exceptionally consistent results.

As the original designers of the first Lockbolt systems, the Huck team have an unrivalled knowledge of how Lockbolts work, and how to design the best peforming fastener for varying types of applications. Installation Sequence

The installation sequence for Huck Lockbolts is very simple. The user inserts the pin from the rear of the application and place the collar over the inserted pin on the front side of the application.

The tool is presented to the application and the nose assembly placed over the pin and collar. Once the trigger is pulled the tool will automatically pull the pin, compress the collar, break the pin-tail from the pin and release from the application.

  1. Pin placed into prepared hole, collar placed over pin

  2. Tool is placed over the fastener pintail and activated

  3. Tool swages collar, generating clamp

  4. Pintail breaks, installation complete

Tooling

A specialised tooling set is required to install Huck Lockbolts. Installation tools are available in battery, pneumatic (air) and hydraulic (oil) powered versions. A separate nose assembly is attached to the tool to fit each specific family/diameter of fastener(s). For pneumatic tools an air supply is required, for hydraulic tools a hydraulic powering unit is required.
